Prepare for Your Visit

If you are a patient or if you will be assisting a patient to Langhetee Eye Center, there are some simple steps to help you prepare for your visit.

We ask that you arrive 15 minutes before your appointment, so please allow yourself enough time to arrive for your scheduled appointment. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please call and let us know in advance so we can re-schedule your visit.

It is common practice for optometrists to dilate your eyes as part of a thorough annual examination. After dilation, it may be difficult to see clearly and your eyes may be sensitive to light. If your examination requires your eyes to be dilated with drops, you may want to have someone accompany you if you will be driving, or arrange for another party to drive for you, or to drop off/pick up from appointment.  We also suggest having a pair of sunglasses with you to protect your dialated eyes when you exit our building–although we have some disposable sunglasses for your use if you do not have sunglasses with you at the time of your visit.

If a patient is a minor (a child 17 years or younger), the person with the minor must be a parent or legal guardian. Anyone else with a minor must have written permission from a parent or legal guardian to make decisions about medical care.

Use this checklist of items to bring with you:

  1. Bring any medical and vision insurance cards;

  2. If you are referred by another doctor, bring your copy of your referral;

  3. If you currently use glasses or contact lenses, bring these with you;

  4. Bring all current prescriptions or over-the-counter medications you take, including the dosage;

  5. Bring a list of your current medical doctors, and a list of all current health problems or conditions;

  6. Bring Permission slip or letter if the patient is 17 years of age or under; and

  7. Bring sunglasses to wear home after your exam.
